Adult Lessons

 

Pico has one of the top-ranked Ski and Snowboard School facilities in the United States, so come and explore our wide range of daily lessons for all ages and ability levels. In your lesson, you'll be grouped with skiers or snowboarders of similar ability levels, and you'll be coached by an instructor who focuses on your strengths to help you improve. 

Morning half-day group lessons start at 10:15 a.m. Thurs-Mon; afternoon half-day group lessons are available at 1:15 p.m. weekends and peak periods. Please arrive 15 minutes early for ticketing and equipment.

Private lessons are available anytime by appointment only.

Pico matches you with the right class by first asking you to classify yourself into one of four categories. Once on the mountain, our instructors we will help you determine the best level within that category in order to maximize your learning experience.

FIRST TIME

• First time on skies or snowboard
• First time on a chairlift
• Will be learning to glide, turn and stop

GREEN ZONE

• Can link turns together, control speed and stop on Easier trails (Green Circle) 
• Can ride a chairlift independently
• Can make different size turns on Easier trails (Green Circle)
• Working toward becoming a more comfortable and relaxed skier or rider
• Starting to venture onto some More Difficult trails (Blue Square)
• Continuing to develop turn shapes and sizes and building confidence

BLUE ZONE

• Increased, controlled speed is helping to maintain a smoother flow of skiing and riding 
• Skis or rides on a variety of More Difficult trails (Blue Square) and some Most Difficult trails (Black Diamond) 
• Starting to carve turns and use the skis or board as a tool
• Developing more dynamic skills and style
• Interested in skiing and riding on steeper trails, carving more precise turns, flat ground freestyle maneuvers and an introduction to terrain parks

BLACK ZONE

• Enjoys the satisfaction of skiing and riding “hard” and is searching for more interesting lines of descent, rather than simpler ones 
• Using terrain for fun, but when bumps get bigger, technique may suffer proportionately
• Focusing on making quicker turns 
• Skiing and riding pace is becoming more intense, powerful and efficient 
• Maintaining control on all terrain in varying conditions has become a key goal
• Wants to become more comfortable skiing and riding in moguls and increasingly challenging conditions 
• Wants to be a more versatile skier or rider and refine existing skills 
• Skiing and riding on Most Difficult trails (Black Diamond), but may explore other terrain choices like Extremely Difficult trails (Double Black Diamond), tree skiing areas and different kinds of freestyle terrain, including terrain parks and pipes
• Instruction is fast-paced, challenging and geared to very accomplished skiers and riders
